What is a Team?

Postby Sperminator7 » Wed Jun 11, 2008 4:07 pm

I know I haven't been at the games the past few weeks, I have been consumed with other responsibilities, but I have been getting the feeling that the 'team' is getting excited about the playoffs since we have made a great mid season run to get us there. However, I'm also getting the feeling that we might be dividing ourselves a bit into; important, kind of important, not so important, and I hope they don't show for the game status. Come playoff time, and anytime we take the field we need to remember the old cliche' "You are only as strong as our weakest link."

Wikipedia defines a team as: A team is a group of people which play a sport together. Members include all players (even those who are waiting their turn to play) as well as support members such as a team manager. Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximize his or her strengths and minimize his or her weaknesses.

Listen folks,...I am a professional coach, I get paid to lead athletes. I can't tell you how many times in my life either as a player or coach of a team that I have had to depend on my weakest player to come through in the clutch. Your team is behind only when: Your 'best' players aren't coming through and performing at their expected level. Let's remember the concept of TEAM this Sunday and every game in the future as you never know when it will be YOUR turn to step up and win the game.

Don't be Westley Snipes in White Man Can Jump who'd rather look good and lose than look bad and win.

What is a TEAM?

T ogether E veryone A cheives M ore

As a baseball team develops successfully the team members can come to rely on each other in a meaningful ways in defining moments. Great athletes always acknowledge that great teams win championships, not great individuals. As Babe Ruth said, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.”

Baseball is one of the finest examples for a TRUE TEAM. I believe for a team to work successfully together it is essential for the team members to have positive communication skills and use effective communication between one another. While individual skills and effort in baseball is important, teamwork is paramount.

Examples of Great Teamwork
~Fans remember John Paxson's basket that won the National Basketball Association Championship for the Chicago Bulls, not the rebound by Horace Grant or the pass from Michael Jordan that made this great victory possible.
~In politics, we remember the President that delivered the State of the Union address not the team of speechwriters that carefully crafted and edited his speech.
~Even at the symphony, few patrons can recall more than the name of the conductor and the soloists.

Scotty-No-Speed, I heard you got gunned down trying to steal again, this time at 3rd. Supposedly the third basemen wiffed on the tag and had time to re-swipe just before you got there??? There is also a "Met" in team, as in you met the tag at the bag, and a "TA" as in tits and ass.

You want to see some real speed? Watch the video below of Usain Bolt, the 21 yr old Jamaican sprinter who set the World Record last week in the 100m at 9.72!!! I know you have no idea, but that is VERY fast. For comparison my Granite Hills record is 10.60

Count the white guys in this race. HAHAH

Reminds me of how I used to light up the brothers on the track eh' pop!!! That guy is 6'5 BTW, with a stride length of over 9 feet. You hear about football players talking about there 4.3--40 yd dash....these sprinters run in the 3.7's. That 100m translates into a 8.82 over 100yards. Can someone say kick returner for the NFL?

2nd Fastest White Guy

Postby CoachShane » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:52 pm

Who is the FASTEST WHITE GUY?

WIKI HAD THIS TO SAY THIS...

Ian MacKie (Scotland) who represented Britian in both the LA & Sydney games, recorded 9.997 sec - rounded up to 10 sec. He is the only white man to have run under 10 seconds.

Daniel Herman (Spring Valley, California) who represented the GHouse Track Club is the only other White Man to break 11 seconds. His 10.6 with the wind in his face stands #2 ALL Time amongst WHITE DUDES.

Only only white guys has ever run under 10 seconds!!! That's an amazing stat. I think it's because we lack the extra butt muscle that black people posses  I did some research and 37 different men have run under 10 seconds and just one white guy....that's sad.

Coach Shane,..Spring Valley? Where you drunk when you posted this? HAHA. Yes, 10.6 for a white guy is impressive, but even more impressive is that I'd be #2 on the womans all time list behind Flo Jo. Now if I could only get on base....
