Vs Reds ** Championship Edition**

I think we need 9 diff guys to throw 1 inning each. Thats if we dont get run ruled. I am willing to start on the hill, and would like to see Peter follow me up with his 99 era, maybe sprinkle in some Scott to screw with their timing?

I'm down but I can literally only pitch one inning at the most. My shoulder's fucked.
I'm going to turn this team around 360 degrees!

I'm down, but only one inning also, after a few batters the other team wouldn't have enough to field a team, they'd all be hurt...That is if I make it through warm-ups. Also, why do we all think we are playing the Reds, cause the schedule repeats or HE is calling the scheduler begging to play us again? Seems like ALL playoff teams would want to play a cookie team this upcoming week to save pitchers for the playoff run. Just saying...

Good points, and we don't know (but probably will later tonight) what the scheduled game is. Last year when SDABL started the three season format, the just rolled the schedule over at the end. I guess everyone is assuming that 's what they'll do this time. I would think we (and the Reds, and the Churchies, and the Tigers) would be PRAYING for a game with the Red Rockets. Why burn pitchers on a meaningless game ... we're all in the playoffs and we're all going to need our guns for the next couple of weeks. Lets be smart about this ... win or lose against the Reds, we're still in the playoffs. Throw whoever (except Matty and Rob) and even if we get 12-runned, nothing changes.

We also need to have our position players play their regular position as much as possible for this weeks game. I say Brent and Brandon can throw this week. Rob and I should throw maybe 1 inning.

Why throw at ALL Matty? This game means NOTHING! It's like the NFL, the teams sit their starting QB and RB in the last game of the year vs. the Browns to rest up for the playoffs. Throw Brent, throw B-Culb, throw Gino "Wakefield" Salvaggio. The only thing good about this game is to get acclimatized to the opponent, who is much better than the first game we played vs. the Reds. Don't get me wrong, I don't want us to lay down on this one, just be smart, and come away from this game more prepared for playoffs.

Fyi, this game does have value. If we beat them and the tigers win(they should ), then we would play the tigers not the Reds. Much easier road to finals.just saying. No bog deal, but there is some importance to the game.

According to the SDABL newsletter that came out tonight, the championship games are the weekend of June 4/5. If so, that probably means the semifinals are the weekend of May 28/29 and that would mean two weeks until we get into the postseason. That would also mean that we don't have to save pitching this weekend because there will be an off date on the 21st. Scott - it would be a good idea to check with our Commish on this before we go overboard on resting up for a game that's two weeks away.

Found on the SDABL website:

--> The Saturday schedule is posted through May 14th. Playoffs on May 21st and June 4th. Note: There will be a couple make up games between non-qualifiers on May 21st.

So does that mean we play we play semis a week from Saturday, have a Saturday off and then play the championship game on June 4? Reading this, it would seem so.

Who knows, but i wouldnt like to see the Reds hitting against our Ace until it matters. Rob needs more work than anyone, let him grab the mound and have him try to get back his swagger. I think the Reds are gonna take the same approach, it would be nice to see their good pitchers so we can gauge them and be set to mash in the playoffs, it would be really suprising if they threw their horses vs us knowing we probably wont be shut down by the same pitcher twice. Just my 2 cents, and I literally only have 2 of them. 8)

I have to agree with Papa Bear on this. Rob pitched terrible last week, and all he really needs is some more time to get acclimated with mechanics. Time is all he needs. Rob's a great pitcher, but he had an off day last week. I think we should throw Rob on Saturday. Put him on a pitch count if we choose to save his arm, but otherwise, if it is true that we have a week off, why not just throw him and see how he performs? Matty can use the rest, so if Rob needs to be relieved, then throw Brent, Gino, me, or even Martin.

Scott, you have to really watch the pitching in the playoffs. Last wee week we saw a struggling Rob walking a lot of people, hitting batters, and missing spots. This a huge and difficult part of managing a team. You're our catcher, in addition to Martin of course, and both of you know when a pitcher is struggling. I felt Rob stayed in there way too long last week. Although, I know we needed innings eaten up so Matty didn't have to pitch so much, but in the playoffs, a struggling pitcher needs to come OUT if things get out of hand like Rob's performance last week.

Moreover, if we let Rob have the mound again this week--pitch count or not--I think he's going to pitch great! Pitchers need time on the mound, and Rob would benefit greatly from having more time to work on his pitches.

We should do whatever Matty wants, and thinks he needs, to do to get him prepared for next week. If he wants to throw a few innings to stay sharp, great! If he wants to rest his arm, great! Either way our mindset doesn't change. How many playoff teams (NFL) "take it easy up" to the playoffs and then get booted when they try to turn it on the next week. Whoever pitches doesn't matter, just make sure the position players are ready to go and are in the right frame of mind. Also don't piss away these at bats.
