This Coming Up Season

Postby Pedro » Wed Aug 17, 2011 9:35 am

Hey Scrubs,

So as most of you may know, I will be taking over as manager for this coming up season. Scott has asked me to take over duties so that he can focus on perfecting his swing. I have a feeling that with the stress of being manager finally off his shoulders we should see a dramatic improvement. I'm already making my first managerial decision and I'm going to be batting Scott 3rd.

I need to register the team so before I do I need to find out what division you guys want to be in. Do you feel like we should stay in 18AA or do you guys want me to try to get us back in 18A? I'm not going to be playing so it doesn't really matter to me but I don't want to be manager of a sub .500 team, so keep that into consideration. We will go with what the majority of the team wants so speak up.
I'm going to turn this team around 360 degrees!

Great to hear that you're taking the command. As I felt I was volunteered for to take over the team I find myself relieved that it'll be you to be manager. Talk to Doug Herman about registering the team, he has the whole system organized. As for the division, I want to stay in AA. I was unable to recruit any other players from my woodbat team, so if we need another infielder, catcher, or pitcher I would put a post on the Bullpen.

I believe we are getting Rob back so we will have Andrew and Rob for pitching. I think we need another pitcher especially if we want to stay in AA but I think the only thing we are going to find on the bullpen is the guy who "used to pitch in AAA" but when they get out there they throw about as hard as Derek after he injured his shoulder.

Do we know who is in for next season. Also it will probably be hard to go down to single A when we are a 5-5 team here, with a couple of games we should have won.

"Should have won" If we dont have the 2 pitchers we picked up, were a 2-8 team this last season. Do you guys really want to struggle on an adult league baseball team in your 30's? or do you want to go down to A division and come up to AA the right way by winning a Championship. We havent won shit in A or AA, why not start at the bottom and work our way up.

Skipper, let me know what you want me to do. I do have the SDABL registration/roster thing down to a five minute ordeal but if you want the job, you got it! When you get our 2 or 3 dozen game balls at the managers "meeting" (meeting is a very optimistic term; you show up, stand in line a few times, sign some papers, pay your money, get your game balls, kiss President Mike's ring and you're outta there) be sure to get them to me before Week 1 so I can break out the genuine Delaware River mud and rub them up. There are a few Blues who appreciate this enough that they actually give us a break now and then.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to the Big Job! You're a smart guy, you know the game, and you'll do fine.

Jesse is a no and Kirby is going to be out of town for the first half of the season and may join us for the last few games. And Derek to answer your question about who is coming back, I honestly don't know. Probably something I should figure out huh? Off the top of my head, Me, Matty and new Jesse won't be back for sure.

So far we have 6 votes and it's dead even. We are going to need a few more votes. Where the hell is Dan? Has anyone checked on him to see if he's okay? I thought he would have been the first one in this post.

Sure not a problem at all. Once I get your league fees in full you can start playing. So I guess we will have to struggle without you behind the dish for the first 4 games. Hopefully you pay by the first game though because I don't want to figure out who to replace you batting 3rd.

I texted Jesse McGough yesterday and he said he is playing this next season. This may help those who think we are short a pitcher.

I voted yesterday for 18A. Without pitching we have NO chance in 18AA, this is a mute point even talking about what level we should play in. Lets just look at the simple facts. We are losing three pitchers who accounted for 4 of our 5 wins (Wagner, Kirby, McGough), two of them had era's under 2.00. Those pitchers were responsible for 65 of 90 strikeouts, and threw 57% of the innings played.

What's left? We have Andrew who isn't a strikeout pitcher, lots of balls in play, which is fine if we play good defense. Buuuut, we have proven in virtually every game that we make errors, many of them to the tune of 4 per game last season (our second worst field % in Scrubs history also). This is why Andrews era is relatively low for adult league ball at 7.13, but our opponents scored 1.22 runs per inning while he's on the bump, we throw it around when he's out there. We can't expect him to go out there and throw 9 innings with no bullpen support.

I heard Rob's name thrown out there.....? Really? I love Rob, he's won us some games, but just going off what happened during the Spring season he wasn't really dedicated and dependable for our club. He also has only pitched 32.2 innings in the last calendar year. So Rob, after taking a year off is going to step out there and handle 18AA batting? Two words: Ya, right. I think Andrew and Rob (if he's there) can do very well in 18A, but even with them two, we need someone to eat innings late in games when we are up big and I just don't see that person on our roster.

Thanks Brandon, that definitely does change things a bit. With Jesse there for the whole season and then Kirby coming on towards the end of the season I think we would still have a good AA squad. Like I said though it's up to you guys and I can understand if you still want to move down to A seeing as you're missing your stud leftfielder and all.

We are still short a pitcher....And I guess Jesse is going to be adding on significantly to his work load to keep us competitive. Might want to ask the horse how much weight he's willing to pull before we load up the cart---just saying...

And I suppose we are all going to rake next season too right? Cause we really hammered the ball this past season. I like a competitve game like the best of them, I just don't want us 10 weeks from now going "shucks, we're 3-7, and we hurt our best arms from throwing them to much and they'll never play again, maybe we should have gone back down." I'm up for what the team ultimately decides, but bottom line not everyone is going to hop onto this blog and vote, so at some point we/someone needs to make the call. My vote is still 18A, because of the pitching issue that we have, and the fact we dumped to shitty teams. Until we stop losing to crap teams all the time, we shouldn't move up. I mean ALL we had to do is win that game last Saturday to get into the playoffs, that team sucked, and we as a team didn't man up and handle business, we didn't have the fucking balls to beat them.

Everyone makes valid points and it comes down to personal preference. I would rather stay in AA especially since Jesse back in, I like playing against stronger competition to me that is fun where every at bat matters (and pitchers can throw strikes). I know we beat at least 2 teams that are in the playoffs and we finish the season winning 4 of our last 5 games. We have the talent on this team. But all of this could be a moot point, since how i ynderstand it the president will ultimately make the final decision on where we play
