Scored the 38AAA All Star game last (Wednesday) night at Helix. One of the teams had Kevin Mitchell who, if you're old enough to remember, grew up in San Diego, was drafted by the Mets, was traded to the Padres, then traded to the Giants, spent 14 years in The Show. Now he's playing weekend rec baseball in SDABL.
Went 2 for 2, (two singles), didn't score a run. Played at third base instead of his usual spot in LF, where he spent nearly his whole pro career, 700-some innings. Oh, yes, and he made a throwing error on a 5-3 play. The hitter, who won't make $3-milllion in his entire lifetime, like Kevin did in per year in his prime, got on base and I believe eventually scored an unearned run.
So in a couple more years (you have to be out of the bigs for 3 years) the Scrubs should move up to AAA and sign Marcus Giles.
Just thought it was an interesting experience having a former MLB all star out there enjoying our humble weekend hobby.
Have a great holiday weekend, all ...
