Hey Jesse...I read an article in the UT Friday morning that I felt I should probably write to you about, and post it here on the forum in case anyone else knows any information about small business bills the government is passing.
Since I don't know to much about this new Small Business Jobs Act congress passed Thursday, I'll quote the UT, and, Jesse, you can research more about if you're interested:
"The small business tax cuts in the bill include breaks for restaurant owners and retailers who remodel their stores or build new ones. Long-term investors in some small business startups would be exempt from paying capital gains taxes.
But much of the tax relief would actually go to larger businesses for write-offs of facilities and equipment such as computers, trucks, and machinery. It would also allow small-business owners to deduct the costs of health insurance for themselves and their families from self-employment taxes, but only for the 2010 tax year.
Business who pay the alternative minimum tax will be eligible to claim the research and development tax credit and other write-offs" (Taylor, Andrew. "Small Business Bill Goes To Obama." Union Tribune. Associated Press. Sec. C1-2. 9/24/2010).
I thought about how you might be able to write-off yours and your family's health insurance for this fiscal year. I don't know the details, but that might potentially save you thousands depending how much health insurance you pay a month.
